About Bocote blanks:
Bocote typically has a yellowish brown body with dramatic dark brown to almost black stripes. Color tends to darken with age. Grain is typically interlocked with some straight/plain. Medium uniform texture and a naturally oily feel. Good natural luster. Bocote may contain silica which will dull cutters and present respiratory concerns. When worked, Bocote has a moderate scent that sometimes resembles pickles. Typically found in Mexico and Central/South America.
Special Note: This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
About Chakte Coc (Redheart) blanks:
Redheart can be a very bright, watermelon red-though color can vary in intensity anywhere from a light orange/pink, to a darker brownish red. Redheart's vibrant color can fade to a reddish brown in direct sunlight, though this color change can be slowed by using a finish with UV inhibitors such as , and keeping the wood away from strong lighting. Grain is usually straight or irregular, with a fine, even texture. Medium natural luster can be achieved. Redheart planes, machines, sands and turns well. Redheart can have a distinct, rubber-like smell when being worked. Typically found in Southern Mexico to Southern Brazil.
Special Note: This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
About Katalox (Mexican Ebony) blanks:
Heartwood is dark reddish brown to nearly black, sometimes with a strong purple hue. Sapwood is pale yellowish white and pieces with curly or wavy grain are not uncommon. Grain is usually straight, but can also be irregular or interlocked and has a good natural luster. The wood has a moderate to high dulling effect on cutters. Use of CA Glue or Epoxy is recommended if gluing. Katalox is among the very stiffest and strongest woods available worldwide. Its dark color makes it a popular substitute for Ebony and has a very faint odor when being worked. Typically found in S. Mexico, Central America and Northern South America.
Special Note: This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
About Spalted Tamarind blanks:
Tamarind has a very narrow heartwood that is a deep reddish brown, sometimes with a purplish hue. The pale yellow sapwood is very wide and spalting is a very common characteristic. Grain is wavy and interlocked with a medium uniform texture. Tamarind's spalted grain is not as dense as the heartwood. Leaving no odor when worked, Tamarind does not dull cutting edges easily. Typically found in Africa.
Special Note: This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
